He is undoubtedly one of the pioneering artists that popularised the kwaito genre of music outside the townships of South Africa, and he’s been central to the rise of Afro-house and newer genres like amapiano. Oskido is an essential cog in the South African music industry and also the co-founder of Kalawa Jazmee Records (formerly Kalawa Records), a record label that is home to musical acts like Mafikizolo,Bongo Maffin and many other foremost groups.
There are very few producers in the continent that can match Oskido’s prowess in developing and nurturing talent. His aptitude for spotting talent is what keeps him ahead of the game in a highly competitive music industry.
The should not be-forgotten quality of Oskido is what his protégé, now top legendary deejay, DJ Fresh, has coined ‘Oskido-nomics’. Oskido, in one way or the other, has had a hand in helping establishing half of the South African dance music artists, including the now world-acclaimed Black Coffee, who no company wanted to sign because his music sounded like nothing else.
Oskido understood the potential for his future sound and gave the then unknown Black Coffee a distribution deal. The list of such stories are too many to mention.
